Arriving in Bucharest
Bucharest’s main international airport is Henri Coandă International Airport (OTP), located north of the city. One of the most convenient options is the airport train to Bucharest North Railway Station (Gara de Nord). The journey takes approximately 20–25 minutes. From Gara de Nord, participants can continue to the conference venue by public transport or taxi/ridesharing service. Taxis and ridesharing services such as Uber and Bolt are also available at the airport.
Conference Venue
The conference will take place at the Faculty of Sociology and Social Work, University of Bucharest, Șoseaua Panduri 90, Sector 5, 050663 Bucharest, Romania
Please note that the Faculty of Sociology and Social Work has two locations in Bucharest. The conference will be held at the Panduri campus (Șoseaua Panduri 90), not at the Faculty’s Schitu Măgureanu building. The Panduri campus is located close to the University of Bucharest Rectorate and is easily accessible by public transport.
Public Transport in Bucharest
Bucharest has an extensive public transport network consisting of metro, buses, trams and trolleybuses. The metro is generally the quickest way to travel between the main areas of the city. Contactless card payment is available at metro stations, and various ticket and travel-card options are available for surface transport. Participants are advised to check current fares and ticketing options shortly before travelling.
Getting to the Venue
The conference venue is relatively close to the city centre, and many of Bucharest’s main cultural and historical attractions can be reached easily by metro or other public transport. Taxi and ridesharing services are widely available. When taking a taxi, we recommend using authorised taxi services or booking through a recognised mobile application.
By Metro
The nearest metro station is Academia Militară, on the M5 metro line. The station is within walking distance of the conference venue. Participants travelling from other parts of Bucharest can connect to the M5 line at Eroilor, which is also served by the M1 and M3 lines.
By Bus
The area around the Panduri campus is also served by several bus routes. The Academia Militară stop is served by lines including 122, 136, 137, 138, 168, 226, 268 and 368.
For up-to-date routes and schedules, we recommend using Google Maps or a local public transport application.
Accommodation
Participants are kindly asked to arrange their own accommodation. For convenient access to the conference venue, we recommend looking for accommodation in Cotroceni, Eroilor, Izvor, or in the central areas of Bucharest. Accommodation close to a metro station on the M1, M3 or M5 lines will generally provide easy access to the Panduri campus. Bucharest offers a wide range of hotels, guesthouses and short-term apartments at different price levels. Early booking is recommended, particularly during busy periods.
Currency and Payments
Romania’s currency is the Romanian leu (RON). Card payments are widely accepted in Bucharest, including in restaurants, cafés, supermarkets and most shops. Nevertheless, having a small amount of cash may be useful for minor purchases. ATMs are widely available throughout the city.
